Handle Rotor Hubs up to 65 tonnes in minutes

German wind turbine manufacturer ENERCON collaborates with RUD Ketten to enhance the efficiency and speed of handling their heavy rotor hubs using the RUD Tecdos TM Tool Mover.

ENERCON needed a new approach in managing and handling their heavy rotor hubs weighing up to 65 tonnes on their assembly line. Traditional methods saw them using cranes and slings, which could take up to 2 hours.

The solution was the RUD Tecdos TM Tool Mover 

The RUD Tecdos TM offered ENERCON the capability to turn the rotor hubs, weighing up to 65 tonnes safely and quickly. The turning process, which had previously taken around two hours with a crane and chain, is now completed in just a few minutes.

“Previously, we turned the hubs around with two indoor cranes. This could take up to two hours,” explains Keno Claassen, responsible for the procurement of resources in the competence centre. “With the RUD turning table, we can now complete the turning process in just a few minutes,” Mr Claassen adds. This collaboration led to a significant time-saving achievement, reducing the process time from 2 hours to just 2 minutes through the implementation of the RUD Tecdos TM Tool Mover.
