Enhanced shape and strengthened
The distinctive pink colour of RUD chains has sparked curiosity and conversation for decades. It is bold and instantly recognisable across the lifting industry. But this colour choice was never just about standing out. It represents innovation, safety and a major milestone in engineering.
Back in 1994, RUD introduced the first chain system in quality class 10, also known as grade 100. This was a significant breakthrough at the time, setting a new benchmark for strength and performance. To mark this step forward, the company made a deliberate decision to do something different. They chose a bright pink finish to signal that this product was not just another chain, but a new generation.
At the time, pink symbolised a forward thinking and progressive mindset. It reflected the confidence RUD had in its innovation. Not everyone was convinced at first. The colour raised eyebrows and sparked debate. Over time, however, it became one of the most recognisable features in the industry. Today, pink is closely associated with RUD and is widely trusted by customers around the world.
The colour also serves an important purpose beyond branding. The coating acts as a visual safety indicator when exposed to high temperatures. As the chain heats up, the pink begins to change. It turns brown and eventually black, providing a clear warning that the chain has been subjected to excessive heat and is no longer safe to use. This simple but effective feature adds an extra layer of protection for users on site.
Hermann Kolb, Head of RUD’s Lifting and Lashing Equipment Division in Aalen, has reflected on this journey with pride. What started as a bold and unconventional idea has proven to be both a strong branding decision and a practical safety innovation.
Thirty years on, RUD pink has become more than just a colour. It is a symbol of reliability, quality and engineering progress. What began as a way to stand out has helped define the company’s identity and continues to set its products apart in a competitive market.
